Texas football beats Vanderbilt 27-24: Final score, highlights from Week 9 game

Texas football (7-1, 3-1 SEC) rebounded from a humiliating 30-15 home defeat to Georgia a week ago on Saturday at FirstBank Stadium in Nashville with a 27-24 victory over a revitalized Vanderbilt (5-3, 2-2). Texas VS Vanderbilt

Thanks to quarterback Quinn Ewers, the Longhorns got out to a strong start and held off multiple late rallies by the Commodores to earn a grueling SEC victory.
Ewers completed with 27-for-37 passing, 288 passing yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. Quintrevion Wisner contributed five receptions and 79 rushing yards on 17 carries. Jaydon Blue had three catches and 47 yards on 10 carries.

The two fumbles and the ten penalties for 108 yards made it unappealing. However, the Texas defense solidified its position as one of the best in the country, while quarterback Quinn Ewers had his best performance since sustaining an abdominal strain in Week 3. What’s next? A home game against Florida on November 9 after a bye week

Vanderbilt denies death. The Commodores will attempt an onside kick after Diego Pavia finds Eli Stowers, a native of Denton, for a 13-yard touchdown throw.

3:00 4Q: Vanderbilt 17, Texas 27
Texas wins a crucial 23-yard field goal from Bert Auburn after overcoming yet another holding call. On third-and-nine, Jaydon Blue ran for 23 yards, setting up what might have been the game-winning points. Give the defense credit for those points. Heck, give the defense credit for the victory.

5:05 4Q: Vanderbilt 17, Texas 24
The defense from Texas takes a stand. On fourth and two, Vanderbilt attacks from their own 35, and Diegio Pavia, under pressure from Barryn Sorrell, lofts up a last-ditch pass. At the Vanderbilt 29-yard line, linebacker Liona Lefau makes the interception.

8:09 4Q: Vanderbilt 17, Texas 24
Quinn Ewers’ third-and-twenty pass to Silas Bolden helped Texas escape some difficulty, but the Longhorns still need to punt. With the Commodores positioned at their own 16-yard line, Vanderbilt will require another stop, as the Texas defense hasn’t let them drive down the field all game.

13:59 4Q: Vanderbilt 24, Texas 17
Penalties, turnovers, and sacks. Many of the positive things Texas has done this game can be undone by those three factors. Vanderbilt takes over at its own 22-yard line with a chance to tie the game, but a promising Texas drive is cut short by a fourth penalty and a fourth sack allowed.

End 3Q: Vanderbilt 17, Texas 24
As the third quarter comes to a close, Texas is once more marching down the field methodically. With 340 offensive yards as opposed to Vanderbilt’s 177, the Longhorns appear to be in total control. However, the Commdores are only one play away from tying the game if you look at the scoreboard. Texas has paid a heavy price for these two turnovers. Here, a scoring drive feels enormous.

3:11 3Q: Vanderbilt 17, Texas 24
Vanderbilt’s shattered hopes are being preserved by Diego Pavia. On fourth-and-goal from the 3-yard line, the quarterback rolls right and finds Junior Sherrill for the touchdown. Vanderbilt has some life, and the Commdores have scored two touchdowns as a result of two Texas turnovers.

6:27 3Q: Vanderbilt 10, Texas 24
Quinn Ewers will have nightmares about these tipped passes on Halloween. Miles Capers catches the lost ball as another pass is knocked into the air. Vanderbilt is positioned at the 38-yard line of the Longhorns. The Commodore offense, which has only managed 154 yards, needed that respite.

8:54 3Q: Vanderbilt 10, Texas 24
After the Texas defense forces a 3-and-out to start the second half, the offense pushes downfield and eventually settles for a field goal from Bert Auburn that was 40 yards away. With 73 yards rushing on 13 runs and 39 yards receiving on five receptions, Quintrevion Wisner is without a doubt the Longhorns’ top back right now.

Texas 21, Vanderbilt 10 at halftime
Following Georgia’s humiliation last week, Texas has reacted. Texas’ offense has amassed 250 yards, with quarterback Quinn Ewers accounting for 211 of those yards. After sustaining an ankle or knee injury in the second quarter, Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, the engine of the Commodore offense, is back in action. To end the first half, he did assist the Commodores in getting inside range of Brock Taylor’s 54-yard field goal.

DEFENSE KEYS REBOUND WIN

The Longhorn defense should handle a pedestrian Commodore attack, and Texas should clean up the miscues on offense. At least, Texas fans hope so.

BACK ON TRACK FOR TEXAS

The Commodores are much improved, but they aren’t the Georgia Bulldogs. Jaydon Blue gets some totes and the Longhorns get back on track.

NO FIELD-STORMING IN NASHVILLE

The Texas run defense will be tested by Diego Pavia and Sedrick Alexander, but the Longhorns will bounce back from last week’s loss to Georgia and save Vanderbilt the trouble of having to replace another goalpost.

TEXAS FANS EXHALE

The Commodores slow things down and get enough big plays from Diego Pavia to keep things close, but Texas’ heavy talent advantage wins out.
